In February 2025, IAF formally endorsed the Interprivacy Certification Scheme (IP-CS.1) as a Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) sub-scope.

Interprivacy serves as a comprehensive framework for evaluating the compliance of data processing activities with personal data protection regulations and international data protection requirements. The scheme addresses requirements from the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Council of Europe’s Convention 108+, the Global Cross-Border Privacy Forum (CBPR) System, and other regional norms, such as the Malabo Convention, the ASEAN Framework on Data Protection, and the Ibero-American Personal Data Protection Standards. It provides a highly interoperable framework to support regulatory compliance across different jurisdictions through a single and common set of criteria. Designed to be easily extendable to complementary data protection obligations, such as national regulations and requirements in specific industries, the scheme enhances trust that data will be safeguarded and adequately processed.

Interprivacy is more than a regular certification. It enables applicants to reduce risks for all parties, including their own legal and financial risks, by checking and documenting their compliance with major regulatory obligations. The certification itself enables organizations to turn compliance into a source of value creation: while applicants must comply with the law, the certification transforms this compliance into an asset and a competitive advantage. It also contributes to demonstrating a lower level of risk for the individuals and companies considering sharing data with the applicants. More generally, the Interprivacy certification criteria enable companies to use a common referential to document and monitor their compliance across the world.
Developed through research and managed by the European Centre for Certification and Privacy (ECCP), Interprivacy is also closely aligned with the requirements of Europrivacy, the official European Data Protection Seal under Art. 42 GDPR. This enables applicants to easily combine both certification with the same documentation, or to move from one to the other.
Applying Interprivacy is simple:
- Check and document: the applicant documents compliance of their data processing with the Interprivacy criteria, reducing their legal and financial risks.
- Certify: following a comprehensive review and audit by an accredited certification body, the applicant can attain certification of their targeted data processing to demonstrate, communicate, and value their compliance.
- Maintain and value: finally, the applicant can maintain and value its compliance with the support of online tools and services.

Interprivacy (IP-CS.1) is recognized by IAF as an IAF MLA sub-scope under the main scope of Product Certification – ISO/IEC 17065. As stated by the IAF Chair, Emanuele Riva: “The addition of Interprivacy to the IAF MLA is a significant step in supporting global data protection and privacy, which is vital in today’s interconnected world. Standards and accredited conformity assessment play a key role in the responsible management of personal data, and the IAF MLA provides organizations with a pathway to gain one accredited certification that is recognized in multiple markets.”
“It is a great honour and satisfaction to provide an international certification scheme on personal data protection that is geographically neutral and aligned with the highest standards in this domain. It will enable Applicants to reduce their risks, to build trust, and to communicate and value their compliance,” said Dr Sébastien Ziegler, the President of the Europrivacy International Board of Experts of the ECCP.
