As the global community intensifies efforts to address climate change, the demand for credible and transparent greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting and verification has never been greater. Organizations across industries are under pressure from regulators, investors and consumers to demonstrate the integrity of their climate-related commitments and emissions disclosures.
In August 2025, IAF Members voted to extend the IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) to include ISO 14067 as a Level 5 sub-scope. The new sub-scope has been added under the existing Level 4 scope of ISO 14065, ISO 14064-3 and ISO 14066.

This IAF MLA extension marks a key step in promoting consistency, reliability and international acceptance of GHG-related product claims. ISO 14067 specifies principles, requirements and guidelines for the quantification and reporting of the carbon footprint of products (CFP). It allows companies to evaluate and reduce the life cycle GHG emissions associated with their goods and services, thereby supporting climate-conscious decision-making and responsible supply chain management.
ISO 14065 outlines the general principles and requirements for bodies validating and verifying environmental information, offering the overarching framework to ensure impartiality and competence in assurance activities. Meanwhile, ISO 14064-3 specifies detailed guidance for verifying and validating greenhouse gas statements, and ISO 14066 contains competence requirements for validation and verification teams. Together, these standards complement ISO 14067 by ensuring that the verification of carbon footprint claims is carried out with the highest levels of integrity and technical rigor.
The inclusion of ISO 14067 in the IAF MLA allows for the mutual recognition of accredited verification to this standard by IAF MLA signatories, supporting acceptance in many markets based on one accreditation. This helps to eliminate the need for duplicate assessments, facilitating international trade and collaboration on climate action.

“This decision reflects IAF’s commitment to strengthening the credibility of climate-related claims. By enabling the mutual recognition of accredited verifications to ISO 14067, we are supporting greater trust, efficiency and global alignment in the measurement and reporting of product-level emissions,” said Emanuele Riva, IAF Chair.
As climate-related disclosure requirements continue to evolve, the extension of the IAF MLA to include ISO 14067 gives organizations a clear and consistent pathway to demonstrate the integrity of their carbon footprint data. It reduces barriers to global market access, helping businesses meet stakeholder expectations and contribute meaningfully to global climate goals.
With this development, IAF reinforces its role in promoting reliable and internationally recognized environmental data, an essential foundation for a more sustainable future.
